To the girl who thinks she smarter than this

To the girl with the 4.0 average (or maybe you're currently angry because it's a 3.8). The girl who has a crazy home life, but manages to pull herself together and go to class every day. The one who always seems to have her life in order. The one who runs the student government, volunteers and is a top athlete. To the girl who thinks she is too smart to develop an eating disorder.

This is a message for you.

You're intelligence has nothing to do with your susceptibility to develop an eating disorder. Stop now. Whatever reason you have to skip a meal, restrict, binge or purge, don't. It's not worth it. I know how easy it is to think that you wouldn't be able to develop an eating disorder, because I convinced myself of the same thing. You've seen the documentaries. You've read the books. You've heard the warnings. You won't develop anorexia or bulimia. Because you know better.

Unfortunately, that's not how it works. Those laxatives you take in middle school to drop a pound will have a stronger effect than you can ever imagine. Cutting a food group out of your diet in order to be 'healthier' won't actually make you healthier. The worst part of this disease is, the more malnourished you get, the worst the disease becomes.

And malnourished doesn't mean weight loss. A lack of a variety of things can lead to malnourished. And your brain will suffer. There's no way around it. You can't will your brain to do things; it's the brain that does the willing. I know you don't like trysting people. I know in your mind it's a simple matter of math and control. I know you think that you're the exception. That you want fall into this trap. That you're smarter.

It's not about your intelligence. Your brain chemistry will suffer. This change in brain chemistry can cause body dismorphia, depression, anxiety and more on top of a full blown, out of control eating disorder.

So please love, I beg of you. Take control now, when you still can. Die your hair, take up an extreme sport, or spontaneously go on a trip. Do what you need to do to feel free. But not this. Anything, but this.

  1. thank you for this 💘💕💖

  2. I wish someone said this to me 2 years ago..
